Leeds Rhinos hero Rob Burrow gives verdict on Kevin Sinfield work

Major work of Leeds Rhinos legend Kevin Sinfield has been unveiled – and it’s been given the seal of approval from Rob Burrow.

The mural, commissioned by Leeds Street Gallery, was painted by James Archer and was the idea of huge Leeds fan Dan Whitely, who set up a fundraising campaign to cover the costs.

Leeds Street Gallery provides opportunities for local artists to promote their work – and that is exactly what the company has done for Archer and his new work.

Jack Ellis, from the organisation, told BBC News: “Even if you are not a rugby league fan, Kevin Sinfield’s charitable achievements recently for his pal Rob Burrow are nothing short of amazing.

“This was a great project to be involved in – and we hope the people of Leeds love this mural for years to come.”

He added: “We are really proud of the artwork James Archer has done to recreate Kevin Sinfield – and a big part of what we do is to showcase the talent from the local area.

“Murals like this are often created by well-established artists not from the region, so we like to give a chance to the ones we think deserve a shot at the big-ticket jobs.”

Sinfield has earned incredible praise in the past few years, raising over £4 million for Motor Neurone Disease research in two separate challenges.

First, Sinfield ran seven marathons in seven days and then the former Leeds Rhinos stalwart ran 101 miles in 24 hours – both to raise money for the fight of his friend and former teammate Rob Burrow against MND.

It’s very likely that the 41-year-old will set himself another arduous task in 2022 as he continues to grow the awareness and funding to combat the horrific disease.

Rob tweeted: “This is amazing. Well done to the artist.”
