Leeds Rhinos expand training facility in important move

Whilst the on field product has left a lot to be desired in 2022, off it, Leeds Rhinos continue to lead the way in Super League.

A superb Headingley facility – rebuilt on the old ground – is the envy of every modern club whilst sponsorship deals continue to be placed to lift the club to the next level commercially.

And, now plans to extend the car park at Leeds Rhinos’ training academy in Kirkstall have been approved by Leeds City Council planners.

The plans will see the club demolishing the existing derelict garage before going on to extend the car park at the Bridge Road facilities by 28 new spaces.

The proposals are part of a wider revamp and follow Leeds Rugby Foundation submitting plans for additional changing and community facilities at the training ground. As reported by WLD last November, the two-storey detached building would be situated on the northern side of the site.

A planning statement accompanying the car park application states: “High-quality facilities are essential in the maintenance of successful teams and therefore the proposed car park is essential to help maintain the standards at the training facility ground.

“The proposal has minimal impact on the surrounding highways. Existing pedestrians and vehicle access points will remain the same and car parking spaces will be gained by the proposal.”

Cycle parking will also be provided at the facility, which is used by Leeds Tykes rugby union club, with electric vehicle charging points to be made available.
