Leeds Rhinos have lost Zane Tetevano for the rest of the match as he was sent off for “direct contact with the head” in a late tackle on Harry Smith.
The Rhinos were 14-6 down as it was and the blow was the last thing Leeds needed in a tough night for the Rhinos.
It is his third red card during his Leeds career.
It comes at a time when these kind of tackles are punished fiercely.
Wigan were building pressure at the start of the game but needed to strike first and they did with a lovely passing play down the right with Abbas Miski finishing in the corner.
Bevan French then added to Leeds’ woes Usually a player who strikes from long rage with brilliant pace, tonight French burrowed over despite the attention of three defenders to make it 12-0 and shortly after a penalty from Harry Smith made it 14-0.
Harry Newman gave Leeds hope with an intercept try but that hope was undermined by Zane Tetevano’s red card.
It came at the end of a half which Jon Wilkin of Sky Sports described as “reckless from start to finish.”
Leeds now have it all to do in the second half against the Warriors.
