Leeds Rhinos decide whether or not to appeal James Bentley ban

Following the latest round of Betfred Super League fixtures, the Match Review Panel have issued the following sanctions:

Julien Bousquet (Catalans) – Grade B Dangerous Contact – 1 Match Penalty Notice
Jay Pitts (Wakefield) – Grade A Dangerous Contact – 1 Match Penalty Notice
James Bentley (Leeds) – Grade C High Tackle – 3 Match Penalty Notice
Chris Hankinson (Toulouse) – Grade A Dangerous Contact – 0 Match Penalty Notice

The following players were handed cautions:

Jay Pitts (Wakefield) – Other Contrary Behaviour
Siteleki Akauola (Salford) – Dangerous Contact
Josh Reynolds (Hull FC) – Other Contrary Behaviour

For Bentley, it’s a kick in the teeth after just returning from another ban with this his third suspension in just eight games since joining the West Yorkshire club from St Helens.

After being yellow carded in Leeds’ fixture against Wakefield Trinity, the second-rower told the club’s Youtube channel: “I’m a bit disappointed. Obviously I’m trying to get that out of my game but I didn’t think there was much in it to be honest but I’ll have to watch it back and see what it’s like and take it from there this week.”

The Disciplinary Match Review Panel stated: “Law 15.1 (b) High Tackle – tried to tackle but reckless about outcome Grade C.”

However, the Leeds club have now decided not to appeal the ban handed to Bentley with the RFL confirming as such after being contacted by Serious About Rugby League.
