Leeds Rhinos confirmed the passing of Les Dyl this afternoon.
The outside back passed away today at the age of 69. Best known for his time at Leeds where he made over 400 appearances scoring nearly 200 tries, Dyl is a member of the club’s Hall of Fame alongside the likes of Rob Burrow.
A try scorer in the 1977 Challenge Cup Final and a member of the side who retained the trophy a year later against St Helens, he was also at the club when they won their last Championship for 32 years in 1972. This coupled with his Challenge Cup success made him one of the last players to win both major finals for the club until Barrie McDermott replicated it in 2004.
He was a Yorkshire Cup winner as well scoring twice in Leeds’ Yorkshire Cup Final win over Wakefield in 1972. That was one of five times he won the trophy. He also won the Premiership twice amongst his 11 honours won with the club in a 16 year stint with the club.
A success at Leeds, he was also prolific at international level playing for England and Great Britain including in the 1975 World Cup.
Seen as one of Headingley’s all time greats especially out wide, he will be remembered forever and our thoughts are with his family at this time.
