Leeds Rhinos concern as Maika Sivo picks up injury in Wigan Warriors friendly

Leeds Rhinos

Leeds Rhinos head coach Brad Arthur will be concerned about the fitness of Maika Sivo after seeing him limp out of Sunday’s clash with Wigan Warriors. The winger had to be helped from the field in the first half of Ash Handley’s testimonial by two members of Leeds‘ medical staff after picking up what appeared to be a lower leg injury.

The injury occurred in the build-up to Wigan’s first and only try of the first half and Sivo could be seen on the ground while Adam Keighran lined up his conversion attempt.

Of course, Arthur is yet to speak about the injury, but that will no doubt be the first question to leave journalists’ lips as he sits down to face the press after the game. Everyone associated with the club will be hoping for good news, though, with fingers crossed that the injury isn’t as bad as it might have appeared.

Any injury to the winger will come as a huge blow to Leeds on the eve of the new season, with Rhinos fans excited to see the former Parramatta Eels man unleashed on Super League. The outing was the Fijian’s second in blue and amber, having appeared against Wakefield Trinity on Boxing Day and he did impress in moments. He carried the ball strongly and he notably delivered a big hit on Adam Keighran shortly before hitting the deck.

Sivo is one of five off-season signings made by Leeds, with Jake Connor, Keenan Palasia, Ryan Hall and Cooper Jenkins also getting a run out against Wigan Warriors. However, there may be some concern about Jenkins, too, who left the field with a physio just before the break.

At the time of writing Leeds Rhinos were winning 12-4 at Headingley with Ash Handley getting over on his special day, while Cam Smith also touched down. Zach Eckersley got Wigan’s try.
