Leeds Rhinos head coach Brad Arthur has his fingers crossed for good news when Maika Sivo has a scan tomorrow. Sivo injured his left knee in the first half of Leeds‘ pre-season friendly at Headingley against Wigan Warriors and needed helping from the field.

There was concern around Leeds’ star off-season NRL recruit then with some supporters fearing the worst. Of course any spell on the sidelines would be seen as a blow for the winger, with supporters eagerly awaiting the former Parramatta Eels man’s first hit out in Super League.

Arthur has confirmed the Fijian has been up and walking since the injury in the changing rooms, though, and while they await the results of scan the head coach is hopeful the issue isn’t quite as bad as first looked.

“I’m not a doctor but he’ll have to have scans tomorrow and we have to hope for the best,” Arthur said after the game. “We have to rule out all the possibilities around MCL, ACL, whatever.

“It was knee so he’ll have a scan tomorrow and we’ll just have to hope for the best.

“He’s positive he thinks he has rubber ligaments and bones and he’s made of rubber. We can only speculate but we have no idea until he has a scan. He’s walking now which is good.”

Cooper Jenkins also left the field in the first half for Leeds Rhinos after picking up a head knock but Arthur has confirmed allayed fears of a lay off.

“He got a head knock but he’s alright now in the sheds,” he added. “He wanted to back out but there’s no point, the game didn’t mean anything.”
