Leeds Rhinos boss Rohan Smith reveals major injury blow heading into important Super League clash with Catalans Dragons

Leeds Rhinos have been doing it tough in the 2022 Super League season.

Cut to ribbons in terms of injuries and suspensions, head coach Rohan Smith has had to juggle his side around on numerous occasions as he attempts to offset the issues.

However, following Leeds’ 18-14 win over Huddersfield Giants, Smith has revealed that another player has gone down with injury whilst one star will not return.

“We had a medical day yesterday and a little bit of treatment this morning. We’ve got a whole heap of bumps and bruises to check,” Smith said.

“(David) Fusitu’a has a strain in his calf so he will certainly be out. The others are more awaiting scan results. Liam (Sutliffe) and Morgan (Gannon) are a chance but probably not a strong chance.

“It’s a little bit too early to tell, we’re still 48 hours within a game, but Cam Smith won’t be coming back, and I don’t think anyone else will come back either.”

The Leeds boss is determined to regain some fluency in attack after a period of clunkiness going forward.

“We need to improve in attack but everything is quite temporary in sport. You can go from a poor attacking game to a good one if you stick to your principles. We are not stressing out about it and just need to polish things up.

“Not having a stable side has been the case through the whole time since I’ve been here. I think it’s really important you have a squad approach to playing and not a team approach, it needs to go deeper than that. We need to regain a bit of fluency with our attack.”

Leeds of course come up against the Catalans Dragons on Monday, knowing that a win will secure their play-off status for the 2022 season following a drastic turnaround.
