Leeds Rhinos boss Rohan Smith gives major update on Aidan Sezer as he addresses Harry Newman and Alex Mellor returns

Back at the start of April, Leeds Rhinos halfback Aidan Sezer picked up a nasty groin injury.

Since then, the diminutive halfback has failed to play a game in a bid to rest and recuperate.

And, despite this week’s fixture against Huddersfield Giants at the John Smith’s Stadium coming too soon for Sezer, Leeds head coach Rohan Smith has revealed he will be back in time to play St Helens next week, whilst Harry Newman and Alex Mellor will return on Friday night.

“Harry will play, I expect him to play well,” Smith said.

“He’s been adding his personal touch and energy to the situation and he has contributed to the quality of practice and our environment.

“He’s got that ability to turn those small things into big things. he is powerful and we’ve been chatting to him about working on his complete game – he wants to be regarded as an all-round player.

“Alex Mellor has a sternum injury but the rest of his body is in good condition and he is fit and healthy.

“We will see where we fit him in as we’ve got some good options there. James Donaldson did a terrific job last week and Bodene Thompson showed what he can do as an edge back-rower.

“Aidan is really close, he will likely be in contention for St Helens in couple of weeks time.”

For Smith the environment at Leeds hasn’t changed since he took the job back in May.

“When I arrived the environment wasn’t too bad, it was welcoming and receptive and ready to work.

“Regardless of performance or result, my style is very consistent as of not riding the highs or lows, but it’s a matter of getting back to work, they are enjoying themselves.

“I’m not sure what was happening before then.”
