Leeds Rhinos boss Brad Arthur has confirmed that Mikolaj Oledzki is already rated as a doubt for this weekend’s clash with Wigan Warriors. The prop picked up a rib injury in the win over Huddersfield Giants last month and played through the pain on Saturday as Leeds fell short at Salford Red Devils.
The prop started the game in Greater Manchester and got through 28 minutes before returning to the field in the second half. However, his second stint lasted just eight minutes before leaving the action with questions being asked about his fitness as he continues to struggle with the issue.
Arthur was asked about Oledzki’s health after the game and the head coach didn’t sound particularly optimistic.
“His rib wasn’t great,” Arthur admitted. “He was busted and went out there to try and do a job for us so I’m not sure where he’ll be for next week.”
The loss means Leeds Rhinos now sit four points off the play-off pace in the Super League table and with seven games to go, they have their work cut with a pretty unforgiving schedule ahead.
The Rhinos take on Wigan twice over the coming weeks as well as Warrington Wolves, Catalans Dragons and league leaders Hull KR and it’s fair to say the odds are now against them.
“We have to take a week at a time,” Arthur added. “You don’t know what happens with other results but the only thing we can focus on is how we perform and making sure we get as many wins as we can along the way and wait and see what happens with everyone else. There’s still plenty of footy to be played and we’re not going to go away it.”
