Leeds Rhinos book their place in the Women’s Challenge Cup Final

Two-time winners of the Women’s Challenge Cup Leeds Rhinos will have the opportunity to wrestle the trophy back at Elland Road come May 7th after they defeated last year’s finalists York City Knights at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in the first of a double header.

It wasn’t easy for the former Super League Champions despite the fact they led 20-12 at the break thanks to tries from Hannah Butcher, Alex Barnes, and two from Chloe Kerrigan as York pulled level thanks to a try and a penalty in the second half before the two teams traded tries to take the scores out to 26-all.

The contest boiled down to a late penalty attempt from Rhinos skipper Courtney Winfield-Hill which won the game for Leeds 28-26.

The Rhinos will now contest a third Challenge Cup Final out of the last four and will meet either West Yorkshire rivals Featherstone Rovers or the Super League Champions and Challenge Cup holders St Helens who will contest the second Challenge Cup semi-final at the Halliwell Jones Stadium this evening.
