Leeds name Ward in Grand Final squad

Stevie Ward banned

Leeds Rhinos have named Stevie Ward in their 19-man squad for the 2017 Super League Grand Final.

Ward was ruled out of Saturday’s game at Old Trafford by Brian McDermott on Monday but will now be given a chance to prove his fitness after dislocating his shoulder against Hull FC.

His inclusion means the Rhinos squad is unchanged with both Ashton Golding and Jack Walker named, as they compete to be starting full-back at the Theatre of Dreams.

Head coach McDermott told the club’s website: “Stevie was in a great deal of pain at the start of the week and is still unlikely to feature at Old Trafford however we will give him as long as possible to prove his fitness.

“They were unable to relocate his shoulder on Friday night because of the extent of the injury.

“Stevie was sidelined during the 2012 Grand Final and of course missed out in 2015 because of  injury so we want to give him time to try and stake his claim for Saturday.”

Leeds 19-man squad: Golding, Brscoe, Watkins, Moon, Hall, McGuire, Burrow, Parcell, Cuthbertson, Jones-Buchanan, Ablett, Ward, Sutcliffe, Singleton, Garbutt, Keinhorst, Ferres, Mullally, Walker,
