Leeds legends set for special return

Leeds Rhinos legends Kevin Sinfield, Jamie Jones-Buchanan, Jamie Peacock and Rob Burrow will all return to the field one last time on Sunday.

The Rhinos welcome Bradford Bulls to Headingley Stadium for a pre-season friendly. It is also a joint-fundraiser for Jones-Buchanan, who announced his retirement, and for Burrow who was diagnosed with MND last month.

Peacock and Sinfield both played their final games for the Rhinos in 2015, and will grace the Headingley field one last time. Burrow last played in 2017, and Jones-Buchanan retired at the end of 2019.

Jones-Buchanan told the club website: “I have always talked about the deep sadness that I had because I was unable, through injury, to play in Kev’s final game and this is a wonderful gesture by him in support of Rob Burrow. I hope we can sell out Emerald Headingley on Sunday and make it a day to remember.”

Sinfield, who is now the Rhinos’ Director of Rugby, added: “I swore I would never play a game of rugby again after I retired but how can I say no to two of my greatest friends. It will be special to walk from the field one last time together and for so many people to come out and support Rob and Jamie makes it even more special.”

Meanwhile, Robbie Hunter-Paul, Nathan McAvoy, Wayne Godwin, Matty Blythe, Stuart & James Fielden will appear for the Bulls.

The game will kick off at 3pm this Sunday.
