Leeds fans call for popular star to stay

Konrad Hurrell was seen dancing to Marching on Together one last time as the Tongan international waved goodbye to Headingley in what was an emotional night.

Hurrell had been made an offer by Leeds – though lower than his current marquee salary – but St Helens have offered him more than a year to sign on the dotted line.

Earlier in August, Leeds head coach Richard Agar had said that a decision on the centre’s future would be made very soon.

“There’s no real update to be honest,” Agar said.

“There won’t be anything announced just yet that he will be staying here or going – the offers are out there.

“It’s for Koni to decide what offer fits him best at this point in his career in a contract and a playing opportunity perspective.

“We will see, but I’m pretty confident we will get a resolution shortly.”

Hurrell was seen orchestrating one last rendition of the famous Rhinos and Leeds United song with the Leeds band piping up from the South Stand and the majority of Rhinos supporters ruing the lack of a new contract.
