Callum McLelland is set to miss the rest of the season with injury.
That’s according to his Leeds Rhinos head coach Richard Agar who says he ‘feels’ for the youngster.
The Pontefract-born 21-year-old came through the Castleford academy – where he is rumoured to be heading once the 2021 season has finished – before a bizarre switch to rugby union with Edinburgh came about.
Leeds signed him during the 2018 season, and he has since gone on to make double figure appearances for the West Yorkshire club.
“I feel for him,” said Agar.
“He had to be patient waiting for an opportunity and he got some last year, and he would have had more opportunities this season had it not been punctuated with numerous injuries and being stood down on Covid.
“Now he’s had a cruel way to finish his season as we’re coming into the business end of it.”
It adds to the long list of injuries that Leeds have had to endure in 2021, with the likes of Liam Sutcliffe, Jack Walker, Jack Broadbent, Rob Lui and Alex Mellor suffering long-term injuries at one stage of the season.
