Leeds 20-38 Wakefield: Six players who stood out and one concern for the Rhinos

Leeds Rhinos player eon Ruan

Yesterday Leeds Rhinos met Wakefield Trinity but like every pre-season friendly the focus was not so much on result but rather performance.

So, here’s three players from either side who stood out during the game and a concern for the Rhinos.

Lee Kershaw

The Wakefield winger looked dangerous for minute one to 80 as he continued to find space all game and made it count with a well taken brace. He did not look like someone recovering from an ACL.

Derrell Olpherts

On debut for the Rhinos, he showed his quality with some dangerous runs and brilliant offloads that made him a threat all game.

Max Jowitt

Max Jowitt showed his physicality and explosivity at fullback with some brilliant runs. He looked like a real leader too for Mark Applegarth’s side.

Justin Sangare

The powerful prop came off the bench for his debut and bounced off tackles and offloaded to stretch open the Wakefield defence routinely/

Morgan Smith

Another debutant, playing out of position, Smith helped stretch the Rhinos and showed some great eyes up rugby as he helped Wakefield to a 38-20 win.

Leon Ruan

Once again a debutant, the young forward formerly of Doncaster, bust tackles and even came up with an assist for Kruise Leeming in the second half.

Another Yellow Card

It may have been Boxing Day, but there were no Christmas Cards at Headingley but instead there was another yellow at the end of a season when Leeds have received plenty of cards throughout the season as James Donaldson was sent for 10 minutes in the bin after a tip tackle.
