Leeds 18-12 Huddersfield: Player ratings and major talking points

Richie Myler

Leeds did their play-offs no harm with an 18-12 win over Huddersfield tonight. Both sides were forced to name mix and match teams which culminated in a tight contest in which the momentum continually swung but ultimately Leeds edged it.

Major Talking Points:

1. Injury cruse strikes again for Leeds

Over the last few weeks Leeds have lost a number of key players to long term injuries. So, when stand in captain Ash Handley limped off there was an audible sigh from the Leeds fans. Can they cope without abother key player?

2. Gannon steals the show

All the talk going into the game where youngsters were concerned centred around Huddersfield’s 17-year-old sensation Will Pryce and that shouldn’t surprise you. He did have his moment tonight scoring Huddersfield’s first try but another 17-year-old stole the show. Leeds’ Morgan Gannon was outstanding in defence and attack making a number of breaks and big tackles. He was rightly named Man of the Match.

3. The one and only Rob Burrow

Gannon may be the future for Leeds but Burrow is undoubtedly a pillar of the club’s past and tonight was a special occasion as he returned to his old stomping ground to launch his book. The whole stadium showered him in cheers including the travelling Huddersfield fans and the smile it brought to his face was worth the admission money alone.
