Leeds 10-18 Castleford: Player ratings and three major talking points

Castleford ran out 18-10 winners against Leeds in an incredibly tough battle, but how did the players rate and what were the major talking points?

1. Castleford taking advantage of new rules

The new one-on-one ball steal rule appears to have benefitted Castleford as they repeatedly went into contact trying to strip the ball. It worked on about four occasions, giving the Tigers great field position in the process.

2. Leeds aren’t a finished product yet

Leeds have injuries and the return of Rob Lui, Kyle Eastmond, Ash Handley, Harry Newman and Konrad Hurrell will help the Rhinos, but they still look clunky and disjointed at times in attack. Too many times Luke Gale was looking for supporting runners and finding no one, which will not please Richard Agar.

3. Castleford look a world away from the back end of 2020

They were bitterly disappointing towards the back end of 2020, but Castleford look to have improved drastically from that period with halfback Jake Trueman and fullback Niall Evalds gelling together seamlessly in attack. Oliver Holmes also looks to have stepped up a gear from the injury-ravaged seasons before him.
