Lee Radford returns for former star’s testimonial, naming experienced squad

Castleford Tigers are set to travel to Cougar Park on Sunday for Jake Webster’s testimonial and it will be the first game of the pre-season that Lee Radford takes charge of.

Castleford have already been out but Radford wasn’t present, instead out celebrating the success of Samoa making the World Cup final, a squad that he was part of as a coach.

That first pre-season friendly saw a very young Tigers side defeated by Championship favourites Featherstone Rovers in a rivalry game.

As for Sunday the squad that has been named to face off against former centre Jake Webster, and former Castleford star and Man of Steel, Luke Gale, is far more experienced.

The team announced the squad via Twitter and their website.

A statement on the club site read: “The fixture will mark a special day for former Castleford centre and current Keighley player Jake Webster who will celebrate his testimonial match, having served the sport of rugby league with distinction for nearly 20 years.

“Tigers fans will have fond memories of the Aussies’ five-year spell at Wheldon Road with β€˜Webbo’ providing a plethora of standout moments in a Cas jersey, playing in both the Challenge Cup Final in 2014 and Grand Final in 2017.

“Senior players such as Liam Watts, George Griffin, Nathan Massey, Adam Milner, and Jordan Turner, along with Kenny Edwards, George Lawler, Alex Mellor, and Jake Mamo are all in contention for their first hit-outs this pre-season.

“The Fords faithful will also excitably notice the name of new signing Albert Vete on the squad list with the bulldozing prop eager to make an impression on potentially his first appearance in a Tigers jumper.”
