Castleford Tigers were brilliant against Huddersfield Giants tonight at the Jungle with a 26-18 win.

The Tigers couldn’t have started any better, weathering a great Huddersfield storm before scoring 14 points in ten minutes.

Derrell Olpherts notched his second try shortly after before Jermaine McGillvary got an important try just before the break as the Tigers led 20-6 at half-time.

Jake Mamo crossed after half-time to make it 26-6 with Chris McQueen getting a consolation score with three minutes left to make it 26-12 before Will Pryce made the game look closer than what it should have been.

The only downsides to the Castleford win was two yellow cards to Paul McShane and Kenny Edwards.

However, head coach Lee Radford was incredibly pleased with his side’s performance.

“I am really pleased, I thought the tries we scored were against the run of play but defensively we were great,” Radford said on Sky Sports after the game.

“We really enjoyed defending and the amount of knocks we carried from last week into this was huge – Kenny Edwards was on one leg at the end there.

“We’ve had some real bunch of players missing all year but we’ve not made a big deal of it hopefully the more we get back the thicker our squad will be but i want to congratulate them on the efforts, that defence was phenomenal.”

Radford also gave a big update on star halfback Jake Trueman who left the field in the second-half with an injury.

“He felt his knee jar so hopefully it’s nothing too serious as our spine is busted at the moment.”
