Lee Radford apologises to Wakefield groundsman for “cow pat” comments

Hull FC coach Lee Radford has said sorry to Wakefield Trinity’s groundsman for his light-hearted criticism of the pitch at the Mobile Rocket Stadium.

In the build up to last week’s game, Radford joked about how opposing coach Chris Chester had been sending him pictures of cows after the FC boss labelled the pitch a “cow pat”.

Speaking after his side’s 27-26 golden point win on Friday night, Radford backtracked on his playful jibe at the condition of Trinity’s pitch.

“I hammered the pitch before the game, I called it a cow pat and I apologise sincerely for that,” he said.

“I have spoken with Steve (Dutton) the groundsman here and he’s fuming with me.

“I said I’m going to bring him a beer when I come watch the reserves. It was like Wembley turf when we walked out there.

“So yeah, I don’t want to start taking anything away from them because they are a good side.”

Victory over Wakefield ended a three-match losing streak for the Airlie Birds who take on Warrington at the KCOM Stadium this Thursday.

In a blow for Radford’s side, they will be without star signing Manu Ma’u who left the field during the game in West Yorkshire with concussion.

The Tongan has already spent a month of this season on the sidelines with a knee injury and Radford confirmed: “Yeah it’s concussion, he’s out.”
