Lee Briers explains the difference between the NRL and Super League

Lee Briers is perhaps the best Super League player to not win a Grand Final.

A legend at Warrington Wolves, he went on to coach at the club before moving to Wigan Warriors last year.

He impressed and has now helped mastermind Brisbane Broncos rise to being title contenders in 2023.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Briers explained the difference between Super League and the NRL:

“It is probably the defensive side. It defence orientated. As an attack coach it is something I have to get my head around.

“It is set for set and allowing your middles to get their energy back. When middles are slow to get back, it used to bother me but I was told very quickly told that doesn’t matter and that we want to build for our defence.”

He also spoke about his philosophies as a coach.

“I came in just after Christmas so I have had my time to introduce my philosophy.

“My philosophy is all about support play,” Briers explained and the Broncos are number one for this in the league statistically.

“It’s about energy and for me that’s the main difference is the athletes. The size and speed of their athletes. It is their national sport so they have the first pick from the pool whilst we’re third behind football and rugby union.”
