Head Coach Adrian Lam hails his “outstanding” youngsters as Wigan Warriors returned to the top of the Betfred Super League with a 28-10 win over Leeds Rhinos.
Lam was without up to seven senior players for the match but praised the efforts from his team to pick up another win.
“I am really pleased we got the win tonight,” Lam said.
“It was a great club win. We were missing a lot of players. We had a young pack as well as a young half-back playing tonight.
“Liam Byrne, Joe Bullock and Ethan Harvard all did well for us, as did Harry Smith.
“They tried really hard and were crucial in getting us a big win tonight.”
Lam also reserved praise for some of Wigan’s senior members after the match.
He added. “We played some very good rugby league tonight and I thought that was down to the quality of our more seasoned players.
“Bevan French finished off two sensational tries tonight. He really provides us with the x-factor.
“He has scored 13 tries in 16 appearances now. He did have some injury troubles this week but I was thrilled he was able to play.
“Liam Farrell played well. Scoring his 100th try for the club helped too but I thought the unsung hero was Sam Powell.
“He ran the show for us at hooker. Made some good yards and was excellent in defence too.
“We have a week off now so I am hopeful we can get more bodies back as we have a tough period coming up in September.
“However, we are in a really good place now. I have a lot of faith in this side and we can challenge anyone going forward.”
