Lam plays down Gildart reports

Wigan Warriors Head Coach Adrian Lam has played down reports in Australia suggesting a deal that would see Oiliver Gildart move to the Wests Tigers was done.

Nine News were reporting that Gildart had already told his teammates that he would be leaving at the end of the season.

Although saying this is not the case, Lam reiterated that Gildart is off contract at the end of the season and free to discuss joining other clubs. Gildart has also made no secret of his desire to play in the NRL.

Lam said: “He hasn’t spoken to his teammates about going to Australia as of yet. With Oliver, he has made it clear that he wants to play for an NRL club, that’s his dream and that’s where he wants to go. He’s off contract at the end of the year.

“If Gilly wants to go there, then he has the full support of the club and his mates. But he still has a job to this year. He has played a large part in the success of the club over a long period of time. I cannot see it being any different.

“If he does have a decision to make, then I am sure he will tell the players sooner rather than later.”

Lam also confirmed Gildart and Tommy Leuluai will not be fit to face Leigh Centurions on Monday night.
