Lam disappointed with Wigan discipline

Wigan Warriors Head Coach Adrian Lam was critical of his side’s discipline following their 26-2 defeat against St Helens, saying they “overplayed their hand”.

The Warriors were on the receiving end of three yellow cards in the match. John Bateman was sent to the bin on two separate occasions, once for his reaction to James Bentley’s kick out and then for dissent in the second half. Willie Isa was also sent to the sin bin after a high tackle on Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook.

He said: “The second half was a nightmare. The penalty count was nine-one against, and we played half of the second half with 12 players.

“I was disappointed with the discipline. I love emotion, and I promote within the team. But you have to intelligence with that, but we overplayed our hand, and it came back to hurt us.

“We attacked poorly, didn’t gave ourselves an opportunity, and we didn’t manage the process.”
