Wigan head coach Adrian Lam has admitted that he tried to bring Jackson Hastings to the club before the start of the season.
It was widely reported that the Warriors were in for Hastings but the 23-year-old instead decided to stay at Salford where he excelled last season.
“Jackson is a player we tried to get and missed out on,” Lam told Wigan Today.
“I’ve worked closely with him in the past – I had him in the juniors at the Roosters – and so I know what he’s capable of.”
Hastings has started this season like he ended the last one, in fine form, guiding the Red Devils to four wins, three more than Wigan have managed so far.
Lam added: “He’s he’s one of the form players here, he cut up Catalans alone and I’m sure they’re benefiting from having him there.
“Their combinations are forming – you don’t go to Catalans and win by 40 if you’ve not got things together.”
Lam’s Wigan side travel to face the Red Devils on Sunday and could enter the game bottom of Super League if Leeds beat Catalans today.
