Lachlan Coote opens up on why he moved to St Helens

Lachlan Coote has the chance to go out on a massive high for St Helens at the weekend, but he was unsure about whether such an opportunity would ever come.

Coote moved to the Lancashire club ahead of the 2019 season after enduring a difficult 2018, by his own admission.

“I had a bad year in 2018, a run of injuries and a coach that probably didn’t want me to be there,” Coote said.

“I didn’t feel like he wanted me there, then you start questioning yourself and your self-confidence.

“I moved the family the other side of the world to chase something, I tried to prove a point to myself that my career hadn’t ended.”

Coote believes that Saints ‘saved’ his career in that respect.

“It’s just been a great place to be around, coming here after 2018, I was thinking my career was done.

“Saints saved my career really – from day one I’ve been respected and it’s somewhere I belong.

“It’s been a great place and the people and players have brought the best out of me.

“I  signed to try and win trophies so to go back to back and then head for a third grand final, it’s a great achievement and I feel grateful to be a part of this group.

“I didn’t expect to have so much success, I was chasing a Grand Final and now I’ve got two and hopefully on Saturday another one.”
