Bradford Bulls will take huge amounts of belief away from Friday night’s win over Catalans Dragons but Kurt Haggerty insists they need to be better moving forward.
The Bulls claimed their first Super League win of the season as they beat Catalans 28-10 at Odsal in front of a near 10,000-strong crowd.
Haggerty’s side got themselves on the scoreboard early through Andy Ackers and they made the Dragons pay for some ill-discipline as Rowan Milnes kicked three penalties.
Waqa Blake scored tries either side of half-time, while Caleb Aekins touched down just before half-time, too, on a night that Bradford fans will not forget in a hurry.
The Bulls have been impressive since making the step up to Super League and came close to stunning Hull FC in round one, last weekend, too. As such, Haggerty is taking plenty of positives away from his side’s opening two outings, but he wants to see more as the weeks roll on and the table begins to take shape.
“I think offensively we have a style of rugby that we believe in and ultimately you’ve got to have a version of D that is tough, committed and physical,” Haggerty said. “In the second half the way we kept turning Catalans away it really showed resilience.

“I think I used one sub in the first half and that shows the fitness of a group that has been together a short space of time.
“We’re a new team, we’re still learning and I think the big takeaways I’ll take away is we looked really fit and we believed in the style of play and we played it from minute one to 79. We’ll take belief away but we need to be better to continue winning.”
On his motivating message to the Bulls ahead of the clash with Catalans, Haggerty said: “There’s a narrative at the moment in regards to the size of the pack, they keep saying we’re a small pack and Catalans are a big, physical team and we built a story and a narrative around that: the little fellas that can be aggressive against a load of big blokes. I just thought that worked really well for us.”
