Last night, Leeds laid down a marker as we head into the second half of the season with a 40-4 win over Warrington.
The Rhinos seemed to put their attacking woes behind them as they scored some lovely tries at will to down the Wolves.
But it was their defence that had skipper and Sky Sports’ Man of the Match Kruise Leeming proud.
He told Jenna Brooks after the game that defence had been their focus coming into the match.
“We spoke a lot about defence this week about keeping connected,” Leeming said live on Sky Sports, “We’ve not been happy with our defence, we still have a lot to improve on.”
He then went onto explain the impact Rohan Smith has had on the side since taking over last month: “What Rohan’s done is fantastic so far, he’s only had a limited time to get his hands on us but we are real improvements.
“He’s put a lot of detail into what he’s saying. As a professional rugby team, every team works on very similar things and are looking for the same things in defence but he’s just put more detail into what he’s saying and made us all accountable. It’s not brushed over or ‘we’ll get it next time’.”
Smith has now won two of three games in charge and has already begun building a new look Leeds team.
Leeming described after the game what he believes this new side looks like and believes in as they move forward: “It’s a side that works hard, scrambles. They could have scored a lot of points but the Leeds Rhinos that you see now are all mucking in for each other, we’re scrambling back. You’ve got prop forwards making tackles on halfbacks to save tries covering each other’s backs.
“I think it’s exciting.”
