St Helens ran out 22-4 winners at the Totally Wicked Stadium today in a typically feisty Good Friday derby with Wigan Warriors.
However, there was one incident which stood out and that was Sam Powell’s crusher tackle on Saints youngster Jon Bennison.
St Helens players took offence as referee Liam Moore showed a yellow card to the Wigan hooker, but head coach Kristian Woolf wanted to see red.
“I thought it was definitely a red card – I thought it was a bad look,” Woolf said on Sky Sports after the game.
Woolf praised his side’s efforts and gave updates on Morgan Knowles and Lewis Dodd who both left the field.
“It was a tough game, I thought Wigan came out really good at the start, but I knew our blokes would absorb that and come back.
“I thought a lot of 50/50 calls went against us tonight and then we lost Morgan Knowles and Lewis Dodd.
“We’re not quite sure yet on Dodd but we’re hopeful it won’t be too bad – Dodd doesn’t come off too often so it must have bad.”
Woolf also bemoaned the two disallowed tries of Saints’.
“I think we did a lot of good things and I liked how tough we were.
“We had two tries that were disallowed and I don’t know how they weren’t given.”
