Kristian Woolf gives update on Jack Welsby as Saints boss has his say on four yellow cards

St Helens head coach Kristian Woolf still believes there is improvement in his St Helens side, despite running out 36-8 winners over Leeds Rhinos.

Woolf has already won the Grand Final and Challenge Cup in his time at St Helens already and could well add to that tally next Saturday against Catalans Dragons.

“I’m extremely proud, I thought our blokes were great tonight,” Woolf said.

“Our intensity at the start was great and you could see how we went after the game.

“I thought we dropped off a little bit before half-time and we lost a little bit of discipline at times – we’ve got to be a lot better.”

Woolf also addressed the four yellow cards given during the 80 minutes by referee Chris Kendall.

“He was consistent, you can argue for or against all of those as there were blokes falling when the contact was made.

“But, he was consistent and thats all you can ask of a ref.”

The St Helens head coach would, however, have been crossing his fingers and toes when he saw superstar Jack Welsby get dragged off the field with injury.

“He’s not a bloke you want to see going down, he didn’t quite get everything right tonight, but he has got great vision.

“There’s a Grand Final, he will play with a bit of pain but he will be alright.”
