St Helens were rocked with the news prior to the clash against Warrington Wolves that they could be without their talisman Jonny Lomax for the rest of the season.
Fortunately for Saints, head coach Kristian Woolf revealed – before the Magic Weekend – that the halfback’s injury was not as serious as everyone first thought and that he could be back on the field sooner rather than later.
“At this stage we are expecting around four weeks,” Woolf said.
“At first we all expected the worst and thought it would be a season-ending injury and may require surgery, but we have had some really positive news there.
“Knowing Jonny he could make that shorter as he is extremely diligent and could be back for the normal season.”
Jack Welsby and Lewis Dodd have been partnering each other in the halves with Lomax out and fellow halfback Theo Fages ruled out until the end of the season.
