St Helens fan favourite Konrad Hurrell is excited to play alongside the club’s three NRL signings with one compared to a former teammate.
Whilst some Super League sides went about a major squad overhaul with their recruitment, St Helens opted to just add three players although all hail from the NRL and are expected to make major impacts.
Veteran winger Kyle Feldt was knocking on the door to be the NRL’s leading try-scorer last season whilst Tristan Sailor is one of the most dynamic running halves in the competition.
The third recruit is far more familiar to Super League fans and especially St Helens who will remember him for his four-try haul against the Red Vee and that is ex-Wakefield man Lewis Murphy.
Murphy made the move Down Under ahead of 2024 as he joined Sydney Roosters but injuries scuppered his first-team chances with the winger making an immediate return to Super League, however, Konrad Hurrell has forecasted that Murphy could well return Down Under in the future given his ability.

Speaking to Serious About Rugby League at St Helens’ media day, Hurrell, who has recently signed a new deal himself, spoke about the club’s trio of signings with excitement.
“They’re really good,” he explained before noting his shock at how Feldt and Sailor have embraced life in England.
“I was actually surprised because I know them from back home and they come from the hottest place ever, they’re country boys but when they came over they embraced everything.
“They loved it, even in the snow. They thought that training would be off but no, get on the field and start training so I think they like it because they get to experience how tough it is.”
That tough pre-season is almost over now with the first competitive game coming this weekend as St Helens face amateur club West Hull in the Challenge Cup ahead of Round One of Super League.
All three signings have been tipped by Hurrell to tear up Super League including fellow veteran Kyle Feldt, who has ended his career-long association with the North Queensland Cowboys to make the switch.
On Feldt, Hurrell said: “I reckon if we play to his strengths he will be up there. At his age, he’s still killing it. I’m excited for him and Tristan as well.
“Obviously, he’s been in and out of the Broncos but I can’t wait to see him thrive again this year. He’s a very very fun player to watch and I feel we need those players in Super League.
“He’s a really exciting player and I’m happy that Super League has got a player like him.”

As for Murphy, he comes with less NRL profile but he’s certainly familiar to those in Super League and Hurrell has backed his fellow back to succeed and prove those Down Under wrong now that he is fit.
“He’s good, seeing him move at training is unreal,” he explained before comparing him to a former Saints flyer.
“He’s a very quiet person but as soon as you give him the ball, he’s a different person. He reminds me of Regan Grace, so quick and so good with his feet. I’m looking forward to seeing him.”
Asked about bad injury luck, which Hurrell himself experienced in 2024, he said: “I feel like that’s why he came back, he came back to reset and prove his point that he’s still the player they (Sydney Roosters) signed before.
“I feel like we’ve got a good player, he’s only 22, if he keeps his head down and works hard then I think he’ll be back in the NRL in a couple of years.”
