Once again Kevin Sinfield has not been awarded a knighthood in the New Years honours list despite the fact he was included in the list alongside Rob Burrow.
Since Rob Burrow’s Motor Neurone Disease in December 2019, the two have become a real inspiration and a pair of role models in the fight against MND and raising money for in the fight against the underfunded illness.
They have raised £15 million for MND but still they only receive CBEs and not a knighthood and there is an emerging concern that they will never receive knighthoods as explained by rugby union journalist David Walsh in the Times.
He explained that because rugby league isn’t part of the establishment, the likes of Sinfield and Burrow won’t receive knighthoods which is truly disappointing.
This is especially given the amount Sinfield has given up in these challenges as he explained recently:
“We’re not on a family holiday this year. There’s a lot of sacrifices that this team have committed to. But like I said, there are a thousand reasons why we shouldn’t go. It’s never bigger than the reason why we have to rock and up on the start line or first of December.
“You know, I can have a break after that and then we’re up to Christmas and oh yes, it’s an important thing we’re doing and the easy option the easy choice will be to say no we’re not going to get you know, I’m the team and I don’t want to take the easy option, we want to give it everything we can and because people with MND don’t have a choice.”
He also spoke about his interactions with Rob lately:”It’s been overwhelming. I’ve spent a lot of my time with Rob. When I come away from seeing Rob, it can be quite overwhelming and get a great deal of perspective and he’d not been out of his house for two years. And he came out to see us, and at that moment, that was particularly overwhelming for all of us.
“It was the last day, we’re tired. And you’ve got to remember, throughout the week, you take on a lot of people’s emotions, because people understand what we’re doing, people get it, people love this community just as much as we do, and they might have had family members or friends who’ve had M&D previously or have currently got it and you understand the journey that people with MND go on.
“And when all that emotion is passed through to our team, we then spend that evening chatting through and talking through stories of people we’ve met and that just helps to fuel us. And although at times it can be emotional, it can be a bit teary for us, actually we try and use that in the right way because it’s wonderful fuel for us and you know it absolutely rubber stamps what we’re doing.”
Recently, Leeds Rhinos revealed that Sinfield had raised £1.1 million with his latest challenge.

Totally agree. I said all along that if they had both played rugby union rather than league it would have been a different story. Still makes me mad.

Us northerners can’t expect anything else from the pompous and selfish arty farts of the south, who don’t care about anything or anyone unless it profits them in some way. SHAMEFUL

Absolutely disgusting to greet legends of rugby league and what they have achieved in second to none the house speaker in the commons loves rugby league
But like someone has already said us northerners are treated like second class citizens until they need us

Sorry guys, but this is nonsense. None of the award considerations are for services to Rugby League, but are for charitable causes. As such, it doesn’t matter whether they played Rugby League or Crown Green Bowls.

Probably. Because he is not one of starmers arselickers, only his arselickers seem to get a knighthood so kevin will be left out in my honest opinion.
