Kevin Sinfield smashes latest fundraising milestone in remarkable MND challenge

Kevin Sinfield

The incredible Kevin Sinfield has broken yet another barrier in his 7 in 7 ‘Running Home for Christmas’ challenge.

His latest ‘7 in 7’ challenge sees him complete 50 kilometres every day for seven days in yet another incredible display of courage and respect from one of the most inspirational people around.

It started on the first of December and sees him running around Great Britain and Ireland, with the 50 km per day being broken down into seven kilometre blocks – where they must each start on the hour, meaning the seven km must always be under one hour long, and meaning the amount of rest the team gets is based on how quickly each block is run.

First up was a run from Liverpool to Wrexham, before a Gloucester to Bristol leg, inspired by Ed Slater, formerly of Gloucester, and Marcus Stewart, a footballer who began his career with Bristol Rovers.

They then headed to Belfast in Ireland where the run was from Ulster Rugby’s Ravenhill Stadium to the football stadium at Windsor Park, before heading to Scotland for a loop around Glasgow.

Sinfield has today reached the landmark figure of £500,000 in donations, well over half-way towards the fitting end goal of £777,777, and donations can be made at this link.

Today is a return to England, as he is running around Hull before the penultimate day of the challenge sees Sinfield start at the headquarters of the MND Association in Northampton and running to Leicester, which is where the 2021 Extra Mile Challenge began.

The final day sees the challenge begin where Sinfield and Rob Burrow had some incredibly special moments, as the run will be from Old Trafford to Saddleworth, once again a return to a previous location, as the first ever challenge ended there in 2020.

Old Trafford also memorably saw Sinfield finish his 2022 challenge at half-time of the World Cup final.

This is Sinfield’s first fundraising challenge since the sad passing of Rob Burrow in June, but he is certainly there in spirit for Sinfield’s latest incredible challenge.
