Kevin Sinfield reveals routes for latest fundraiser in memory of Rob Burrow

Kevin Sinfield

Leeds Rhinos legend Kevin Sinfield CBE has unveiled his latest fundraiser with the seven routes across the seven days now revealed.

Kevin Sinfield, who has helped raise millions of pounds to combat and raise awareness about Motor Neurone Disease (MND)  will take up his latest challenge on Sunday, December 1st, in the first fundraiser since Rob Burrow’s sad passing in June.

Having previously undertaken such challenges as his ‘7 in 7 in 7’, with that number being that of former teammate Burrow, Sinfield has honed in even further on the number seven for this year’s event.

Not only will he run over 50km a day for seven days straight, each day will be split into 7km chunks with strict starting times for when each 7km section must begin.

This year’s fundraiser has been titled ‘Running home for Christmas’ and day seven will culminate in Saddleworth, the home area of Kevin Sinfield but the routes for all seven days have been confirmed as well.

Incredibly, this will be the fifth annual challenge that Kevin Sinfield has undertaken with the donations to the MND community so far coming close to £10 million.

Having just launched this latest fundraiser, an impressive £213,490 of the £777,777 target has been raised.

This year’s event will begin in Liverpool with Kevin Sinfield set to take part in the city’s annual Santa Dash where he will run alongside 7,000 Santas, before finishing that day in Cardiff.

Day two sees Sinfield cover over 60km, the longest day of the week, as he runs from Gloucester to Bristol. Day three sees the team cross the Irish Sea and run around Belfast before the fourth day in Glasgow.

Sinfield returns to the rugby league heartlands for day five as he runs from Beverly to Hull, taking in both the MKM Stadium and Craven Park, before heading to Northampton for day six.

The seventh and final day, Saturday 7th December, sees Kevin Sinfield finally return home for Christmas as he runs from Old Trafford to Saddleworth.

Speaking on his latest challenge to former club Leeds Rhinos, Sinfield said: “I am really looking forward to the start line and being joined by 7,000 Santas will certainly put us in a festive spirit.

“This year’s event will be particularly poignant having lost Rob in June but our commitment to Rob’s memory is to continue to support the MND community. We are looking forward to meeting more people than ever from the MND community throughout the week and giving them the opportunity to continue to bang the drum for MND.”

Rob Burrow lost his four-and-a-half-year battle with MND in June and best mate Kevin Sinfield was with him every step of the way. He’d even forego playing in the recent 745 Game so as not to disrupt his training regime or risk injury ahead of this latest challenge that he begins in just under a fortnight’s time.
