Kevin Sinfield makes surprise return to Leeds Rhinos

Leeds Rhinos legend Kevin Sinfield made a return to the club to watch the side in pre-season training this week.

The club returned to training after a win over Wakefield Trinity in a festive friendly on Boxing Day claiming a 41-22 victory.

Sinfield has recently completed his latest challenge to raise money in the fight against Motor Neurone Disease in the name of good friend and former teammate Rob Burrow.

Sinfield and Burrow were also named in the New Year Honours list and are set to be awarded CBEs in 2024.

Sinfield then appeared at training as pictures on social media revealed. You can see this here. This comes as speculation persists about his future in the England Rugby Union set up after World Cup semi-final heartache.

The Leeds legend will have also been able to watch his son Jack play who now has a number of first team appearances under his belt and was promoted from the number 29 shirt to the 21 jersey ahead of 2024.

Starting at half back against Castleford Tigers, Sinfield made his debut over Easter 2022 and then went on to play five times for the first team during that season. He also added a combined 14 appearances for the Reserves and Under-18s Academy as he helped the club lift the Academy Grand Final title with two drop goals and two goals against St Helens.

2023 saw the half back featured six times in Super League, including the final four games of the season in which he recorded his first senior try against Castleford at Headingley. He continued to also play in the Academy and Reserves teams, scoring one try and 14 goals for the Under-18s and six tries and 22 goals for the Reserves. He was one of four players to sign three-year extensions that season.

The youngster started playing at Saddleworth Rangers and went on to win two Oldham Cups (2017, 2018) and reach the Lancashire Premier Play offs in 2018 and 2019. He was in the line up for the Under-16 match against NSW Country RL at the end of 2018.

Could he soon deliver the same kind of career as his father? The potential is certainly there with Sinfield excellent in the win over Wakefield kicking six goals, a drop goal and notching an assist.
