Kevin Sinfield lifts lid on seventh MND challenge plan with finish line revealed

Kevin Sinfield

Kevin Sinfield has already planned out his next 7 in 7 challenge with Old Trafford set to be finish line.

The Leeds Rhinos legend completed his sixth challenge on Sunday afternoon as he finished his seventh ultra marathon in seven days at Headingley Stadium. Sinfield started his run in East Anglia last Monday before tackling routes in Ireland, Wales, South Yorkshire, Cumbria and Scotland.

The final leg of his 7 in 7 challenge started in North Yorkshire and took him back to Leeds, where he had so many memorable moments alongside his pal and former teammate Rob Burrow, who lost his battle with motor neurone disease last year.

At the time of writing, with donations still being made, Sinfield has raised £1.25 million for MND charities over the last week. That means he has raised more than £11m since his first challenge back in 2020.

And, in keeping with Burrow’s old squad number, Sinfield is already planning to hit the roads for a seventh time next year.

He hasn’t revealed the full details of the route being planned, but has confirmed that the plans to bring the curtain down on his 2026 challenge at the Super League Grand Final on October 3, with a focus on the rugby league heartlands.

Kevin Sinfield planning Grand Final finish

Speaking to BBC Breakfast on Monday morning, Sinfield said: “The first thing I did when I got on the coach last Sunday on our journey down to Ipswich was to speak to Tristan (Batley-Kyle) who plans our routes, to say to him, ‘next year, this is what I want it to look like, can you start to work out distance out of the seven days what it looks like’. That pretty much got planned.

“We’re going to go a little bit earlier I think and the plan is to finish at the Super League Grand Final, which would the October 3, and almost finish back where we started.

“That first one was in the north, Leeds and Oldham, where I’m from, but to bring it back with Rob and back to the rugby league heartland. Hopefully we’ll run right across the M62 and back to Old Trafford.”
