Kevin Sinfield has officially finished his latest 7 in 7 challenge with the former Leeds Rhinos man arriving at the finish line at Headingley Stadium.
Sinfield embarked on his latest challenge on Monday in East Anglia and over the last seven days he has run seven ultra marathons to raise money and awareness for those impacted by motor neurone disease, the disease his friend and former teammate Rob Burrow suffered with.
As such, this week Sinfield has taken on routes in the Republic of Ireland, Wales, South Yorkshire, Cumbria, Scotland and he started today’s run at Queen Ethelburga’s College in North Yorkshire before finishing at Headingley.
It’s a challenge that has seen him cover nearly 300km (185 miles) alongside a team of support runners. And, he has been joined by various athletes and celebrities, too, with triathlete Jonny Brownlee and boxer Josh Warrington running with him today.
Ultimately, at the time of writing, Sinfield has raised more than £1.15 million over the course of the week, with donations coming in from far and wide. That means that over the six challenges he has completed for MND charities, the England rugby union coach has raised over £11m.
The incredible achievement has quite rightly picked up plenty of coverage and on Saturday, Prince William sent him a message of support.
“Kevin, huge congratulations on nearing the finish of your incredible 7 in 7 challenge,” the Prince wrote on X. “Your commitment to Rob and everyone affected by MND is truly inspiring.
“Thank you for shining a light on the need for research and support, and for the hope and example you bring. Look after those knees!”
Kevin Sinfield finishes challenge with powerful message
Speaking to the crowd that met him at the finish line at Headingley, Sinfield said “To the MND Community and the people we’ve met on route, all through the last week, all through the past five years, to everybody we’ve met – you’re an absolutely beautiful community.
“We’ve got to keep fighting for the MND Community.”
The challenge may be over, but the donation page is still up and running and you can give here.
