Kevin Naiqama reveals why he is leaving St Helens

Kevin Naiqama will leave St Helens at the end of this season after three successful years at the club.

The Fijian centre bows out with two Grand Final rings and a Challenge Cup success to his name, but that could soon be three rings if Saints beat the Catalans Dragons at Old Trafford on Saturday.

And, Naiqama has paid tribute to all those at St Helens.

“The stuff we have achieved, I don’t think will resonate until I am past that point,” Naiqama said.

“When I reflect on my time here at St Helens I think I will realise just how well we have done.

“They get the best out of us, from the strength and conditioning team to the coach.

“We really have a special group of players and it makes your time here more enjoyable – we’ve got players and coaches who want to get the best out of you.”

Naiqama has also revealed just why he is leaving the club.

“I’m putting my wife and daughter first and their wellbeing and mental health – my family will always come before my football.

“We’ve had an amazing time here at Saints, if things hadn’t have happened with COVID last year and not seeing my family then I probably would have extended at Saints, but I’m grateful for my time here.”
