Kevin Brown not sure where star player will fit into Super League side

Wigan Warriors have climbed to the top of the league in the last few weeks.

Making this all the more impressive is the fact that they have done so without star Jai Field.

Bevan French has taken over at fullback since and has been in superb form lately.

Thus, Kevin Brown is not sure where Jai Field should play when he returns from injury.

“I think the fact that Bevan French has gone to fullback is big. I thought when Jai Field got injured that that was it, I didn’t know where they were going to get a six from,” he said on The Last Tackle podcast.

“Shorrocks has come in at six and been an absolute revelation and the balance they’ve got in that squad because Shorrocks defensively he’s showing that attitude.

“Whenever French gets the ball it’s either a try or a try assists, he’s just creating so many problems for defences at the minute.

“When Jai Field comes back I don’t know where he plays. He definitely gets in the side, don’t get me wrong but I’m not sure he drops straight back into fullback.”

Paul Sculthorpe added: “They’ve got that grit and Joe Shorrocks is someone who’s going to create but he’s another body who will fight for everything, so when you’ve got players like Bevan French at the back you can strangle teams.

“I thought when Wigan moved him to fullback and they moved Field to six against Leigh, I thought it was a completely different look.

“They were struggling in attack to create that.”
