Kevin Brown makes shock Challenge Cup Final prediction

Challenge Cup

This weekend Leeds Rhinos’ Headingley Stadium plays host to a huge semi-final as Wigan Warriors and Hull KR meet after a meeting between Leigh Leopards and St Helens at Warrington Wolves’ Halliwell Jones Stadium in what promises to be one of the best semi-final weekends we have seen.

These look like two heavyweight clashes and will come with that big fight feel come the weekend.

The game in Leeds will see Wigan chase a chance at a 21st Challenge Cup and retaining their trophy whilst Hull KR are hoping to replicate the heroics of their semi-final at Headingley in Leeds.

Kevin Brown believes the game could be decided by Wigan’s left edge: “Wigan’s left edge though, just look back to when they need points they go to Farrell and Wardle and Marshall but now French and Field are starting to drift over there.

“There’s so much by power on that edge I think if Hull KR can keep that edge to one score then they’ve got a massive chance of winning the game.”

The other game sees the Super League and World Champions take on the dreamers as St Helens take on Leigh Leopards.

No one would have expected Leigh to be second and 80 minutes away from the Challenge Cup Final.

They go into this game above St Helens in the league yet still most expect St Helens to win but not Brown.

“I think it’s going to be a derby in the final,” he said on BBC Five Live.

“I think it’ll be Wigan versus Leigh. Sorry Al, I just think Leigh have too much quality.”

St Helens star Alex Walmsley responded: “On our game I know Kev spoke about us perhaps maybe going in there as favourites in terms of the bookies, but I think we will have that underdog fight ourselves as well.”

The game takes place on Saturday on BBC with the winners set to meet the winner of Wigan and Hull KR at Wembley in the oldest and most prestigious final in rugby league history.

Derek Beaumont has been open about it being his dream to lead his club out into a Challenge Cup Final.
