It must be a good sign if your team is getting compared to one of the best in the world.
Well, for Castleford Tigers supporters, that’s exactly what Sky Sports pundit Kevin Brown did last night in front of the rugby league world.
When discussing Castleford’s talismanic captain Paul McShane, Brown made the comparison between the Tigers and Melbourne Storm regarding the way their play is dominant around one hooking figure in the centre of the field.
It might have come as a shock to viewers upon hearing it, but it does make a lot of sense.
“He’s brilliant,” Brown said on McShane.
“He’s getting back to his best and gets out of dummy-half really quick.
“Lee Radford has mentioned Paul McShane constantly and I’ve not seen a team guided around by the 9 as much as I have since I watched Melbourne.
“Now they (Castleford) are finding that out and he’s playing really well.”
For McShane, yesterday’s win over Leeds Rhinos wasn’t the prettiest of victories, but it gave the West Yorkshire side another two points as they racked up their fourth league win of the season.
The defeat also left Leeds second bottom, just one point in front of Toulouse Olympique who went down narrowly to Hull KR, 28-24.
