Kevin Brown labels Super League side the “favourites”

There are a lot of questions across Super League at the moment.

The relegation battle is still open a little, the play-off places are wide open and the question of who will end the season as Champions is very open indeed.

This is due in part to St Helens’ up and down form.

The Super League and World Champions have been far more inconsistent than in previous years.

But Kevin Brown still believes they are the favourites.

“I think in terms of dominance, we have got that. Saints are the most dominant side I’ve seen. I still think they’re the favourites this year. I think they’ll peak right at the end of the year,” he said on BBC Five Live.

“I don’t think anyone will look forward to playing against Saints and they’re slowly getting back to something like the best. I think they’re still heading shoulders above everyone else.”

He went on to compare the Saints’ dominance to that of Wigan Warriors in the 80s and 90s:

“I don’t think we need a Wigan or a team like that who just dominates. For me as a fan, going to a game and not really knowing who’s going to win the game is much better than what Wigan or whichever dominant side needing to be off the game to allow the other team a chance of winning that game.

“I get what people say, it’s a trendy thing to do in rugby league to bash the game and everyone’s like it’s not as good as it used to be.

“Well I’ve seen the pictures what Denis Betts has shown me where yeah he looks great, he’s running through but the three people chasing him look like they’ve just come out of the pub.

“So it’s much better rounded than having one team that all train and everyone else just plays part-time and goes to the pub.”
