Kevin Brown “feels sorry” for Super League club

Super League

Super League is at a fascinating point in the season with Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves, Hull FC, Hull KR and Salford Red Devils now locked in a battle for the last two play-off spots.

Meanwhile, above them Wigan Warriors and St Helens have dreams of forcing their way into the top two and ensuring a home semi-final in Super League whilst Leigh Leopards and Catalans Dragons look to hold onto those spots. Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity are battling to survive in Super League.

But the interesting question hangs around Warrington Wolves.

When they won eight games in a row, they looked like future Grand Finalists but now there is a chance they could even miss out on the play-offs after their recent struggles losing to Wigan, St Helens, Leeds, Hull FC and Castleford Tigers and even having their Challenge Cup hopes ended by a 12 man Wigan side.

Now former Warrington star Kevin Brown has said he feels sorry for them.

“I feel sorry for them. I think without George Williams and obviously Riley Dean’s on loan, which I think that was just a bit of bad timing,” He said on BBC Five Live.

“It leaves Danny Walker’s on that right edge, I was mentioning the left edge for Wigan, he was up against that last week and he was exposed a few times. But Danny’s a hooker, there aren’t many hookers who could deal with that sort of traffic.”

He believes they are paying the price for the increased expectations after that strong start:

“So I think Warrington are taking a bit of stick at the minute because they got an awful lot of credit and probably expectations rose a little bit too much at the start of the year.

“I think they’ll bounce back when George Williams comes back and finds his spot but without him, they just don’t look a patch on what they are with him. They don’t look like they can be contenders.

“I know they’re still sat in fifth, but quite a lot of the teams are losing around them as well. Salford and Hull KR have lost a few, so it probably doesn’t show you how bad the run of form is. I think they’ve lost 6 out of 7 now.

“If you want to be contenders, you talk about that trust and that confidence. They’re not building any of that at the moment.”
