Kevin Brown claims two Wigan Warriors players should have been sent off

Super League

Former Wigan Warriors star Kevin Brown had his say on the game between his former side and Castleford Tigers in the Betfred Super League Round One clash between the two.

However, despite being Wigan born and bread, Brown was quick to question the decision to send off Liam Watts and was quick to ask why Wigan star Kaide Ellis wasn’t treated the same.

He said: Look, it doesn’t look good and he doesn’t miss him but what’s the difference with Kaide Ellis he hit Luke Hooley in the head also.”

He went on to say: “Well again he’s falling there’s mitigation. Luke Hooley disappears on him, on Kaide Ellis, but I actually think that one looks worse and that’s not even a yellow card but there’s clear mitigation though so I like what the referee’s done, he’s given a penalty, you can’t hit it into the head but this one didn’t look good and could have been a red.”

He also questioned why star player Harry Smith wasn’t sent off for a tip tackle on Luke Hooley.

He said on BBC Two: “Why isn’t that one a red? I don’t know, I think that probably works. Like you could be paralysed from a tackle, you don’t want that in the game at all. You know, soon as that above the horizontal, your legs are up, you know, they’re all saying that Luke Hooley’s milking a penalty, but I can tell you now, no player tries to milk a penalty and bury their neck in the sand.

“That is exactly what we don’t want in the game. And for me, I think Harry Smith should have probably walked and saw red. I’m not sure about the red card for Liam Watts.”

Will Smith pick up a ban for this tackle? We’ll see soon.
