Kevin Brown calls for radical rule change to make Super League more like “the women’s game”

With IMG getting involved in the sport and with the TV deal expiring this year it is vitally important for the sport that the product on the field is as good as ever and in the opening six rounds of Super League we have seen that.

However, there is something that is making former player Kevin Brown “sick” as he proposed a radical new rule to make the game “easier on the eye” like “the women’s game.”

He said on The Bench Podcast:

“I’m sick of seeing players in defence rolling around on the floor wrestling so I’d like a rule where there’s only two in the tackle to make the game quicker.

“I look back at the game sort of ’90s or early 2000s and it was quick. I watch the women’s game now and it’s easier on the eye, I get that it would be hard to move to but if you’ve got three in the tackle and someone doesn’t drop out after three seconds then it goes back to one.

“The big players would get their day in the sun because the off-loads and then the little fellas would be able to run around, it’d be a quicker play the ball and I think the game would be quicker.

“You can wrestle but only do it two on one or one on ones.

Jon Wilkin then added: “It would stop people getting their knees blown out as well.”

Brown then said: “They’re that good at it now that the defence is almost getting too good for the attack. The attack is not keeping up as quick with the defence.”
