James Bentley is well known for his aggression and determination to push the limits to the rules in Super League.
With St Helens he just about got that balance spot on, but for his hometown club Leeds Rhinos it seems to be becoming more of a problem.
After sitting out a big chunk of the season so far due to a four-match ban handed to him for a high shot on Gareth Widdop, Bentley looks to be heading for another potential suspension following his side’s defeat to Castleford Tigers yesterday.
The Rhinos went down 16-14, but Bentley was sinbinned towards the back end of the game, effectively ending the contest.
And, for Sky Sports pundits Kevin Brown and Jon Wells, he went too far in his aggressive hit on Joe Westerman.
“I think the leadership at St Helens would pull him in line,” Brown said.
“He did boil over a few times when he was there but he knew the balance and I think today he has let his team down because he crossed the line – he was going out of his way to hunt.”
‘That for me is a red card,” Wells continued.
“That was a James Bentley explosion – he’s playing on the wrong side of the right line at the moment and he’s going to spend more time deselected or on the sideline if he’s not careful.”
