Hull KR reached their second semi-final in two years as they prepared to face Huddersfield Giants at Elland Road in the Challenge Cup just a year after making the Super League play-off semi-final.
Both, however, ended in defeat with Rovers going down to Catalans Dragons in 2021 and Huddersfield in 2022.
In doing so, it means that Tony Smith will not bow out from Craven Park with a Challenge Cup winners’ medal as they were second best to go down 25-4 to the Giants.
However, Jamie Jones-Buchanan waxed lyrical about his former boss.
“He’s done a phenomenal job in Super League in general,” Jones-Buchanan said on BBC Sport.
“He’s moved on and affected lives right across the sport – young blokes can look back and look at the influence that Tony has had right throughout this game for the last 15 or 20 years.”
For Kevin Brown, he identified what KR don’t do as much as other teams and why they needed to rein in some of their extravagance from 2021.
“Last year was a bit too flamboyant, there were short kick-offs every time and people were questioning if they were doing too much but now they’ve found that balance.
“They don’t do as much wrestle as other teams but committed wise they are right up there.”

Well.
That was a critical, in-depth, analysis from Kevin Brown.
I’m sure if Tony Smith has a team doing som serious study, it will make the world of difference to the rest of the season for the Robins.
