Ken Sio gives update after injury against St Helens and opens up on “a mentally hard” year

Ken Sio has developed into one of the best wingers, if not the best winger, in Super League over the last two seasons.

In a struggling Salford side in 2021, Sio claimed a place in the Super League Dream Team and finished as the league’s top try scorer.

In 2022, Sio continued to score tries for fun topping his tally from 2021 and again being named in the Dream Team.

This time though his tries counted for a little more as they contributed to a metoric rise from the Red Devils as they secured an unlikely play-off spot and made it all the way to the semi-finals via a superb 28-0 win over Huddersfield.

However, the season didn’t end the way he would have wanted to as Salford were unlucky against a superb St Helens outfit in the semi-finals last week losing 19-12, and making matters worse Sio suffered a nasty head knock which ended his afternoon early in what was a really worrying sight for anyone at the ground or watching TV.

However, Sio has now taken to social media to give an update on the situation revealing that he is doing okay.

That said, his greater focus was on tackling mental struggles this year and being comfortable for the first time to talk about these.

Here’s what he said on Instagram: “First and foremost thank the Man above for this year and getting me through this season.

“Not the way me and my brothers want to finish, but we went above what we set out.

“Love to my crazy partner and kids for riding the highs and low, it’s been a hard one mentally for me. My USO’s who had my back thank you, first time I’ve been comfortable to speak on my struggles and you guys were there for me.

“It has been an awesome season from the team, we definitely got something special going on here.

“Sorry for the scare! Thank you for the messages I’m doing okay. I definitely had no idea where I was and wish to have ended the game with the boys on the field.

“Till next time.”

And next time expect Sio to continue scoring tries for fun.
